Based on a joint Air India Group and Adani Airports release of 25 October 2026. Checked on 30 October 2026 (IST).

Air India Group will move some of its Mumbai flights to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in phases. The move makes way for the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The move starts with Air India Express domestic flights and then its West Asia services.

The timeline

  • December 2026: Air India Express starts four daily domestic flights from NMIA.
  • January 2027: Existing Oman services move to NMIA, and planned Kuwait services begin there. The Kuwait move still needs regulatory approval.
  • By IATA Northern Summer 2027: Air India Express services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah move to NMIA in stages.

The release does not give dates for individual routes or say which domestic routes will move first.

Why it matters

Once each route moves, passengers and agents will need to check which airport is printed on the ticket. Air India Group says it will keep operating from both airports. It adds that the plan helps it keep its historical slots at CSMIA.

This follows IndiGo’s 25 October announcement that it will start international flights from Navi Mumbai in February 2027 (see our earlier report).
