Based on the Immigration Department of Malaysia, the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi and Tourism Malaysia. Checked on 31 October 2026 (IST).

Two months remain on Malaysia’s visa-free entry scheme for Indian passport holders. As of 31 October 2026, the Immigration Department of Malaysia still lists Indian citizens as visa-exempt until 31 December 2026, and the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi gives the same end date. Neither page mentions an extension into 2027.

What the rules say now

According to the High Commission, Indians can enter Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days for business, tourism, social visits or transit until 31 December 2026. Visitors must have:

  1. A passport valid for at least six months;
  2. A confirmed return flight ticket;
  3. A confirmed hotel booking; and
  4. A Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), submitted online within three days before arrival.

The MDAC is filed at the Immigration Department’s online portal (imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac). It is required even under the visa waiver.

What it means for 2027 trips

No official notice of an extension had been published when we checked. Unless Malaysia announces one, Indian travellers arriving from 1 January 2027 will need a visa. Malaysia’s eVISA is applied for at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my.

Tourism Malaysia has said its Visit Malaysia campaign has been extended through 2027 and that it will step up promotion in India. In a 12 August 2026 release, it said Malaysia received more than 1.5 million visitor arrivals from India in 2025 and that India is served by more than 190 direct flights a week. The campaign extension is not a visa decision, however. Only the Malaysian government’s notice on the visa waiver itself will settle the 2027 position.

Advice for travellers and agents

  • Trips that start on or before 31 December 2026 are covered by the current waiver, for up to 30 days.
  • For January 2027 and later, check the Immigration Department page before travel. Where possible, choose flights and hotels that can be changed until the position is confirmed.
  • Late-night departures on 31 December: the official pages describe the waiver as covering travel to Malaysia until 31 December 2026. A flight that lands after midnight arrives in 2027, so confirm with the High Commission before relying on the waiver.

We will update this story when Malaysia announces its decision.
