AirAsia release dated 5 October 2026 (Sepang); Thai AirAsia release dated 22 September 2026 (Bangkok).
Malaysia: Ahmedabad and Amritsar return
AirAsia says it is bringing back its Kuala Lumpur routes to Ahmedabad and Amritsar, four times a week each:
- Kuala Lumpur–Ahmedabad: from 25 October 2026
- Kuala Lumpur–Amritsar: from 2 December 2026
The airline’s launch sale offered all-in one-way fares from RM669 for bookings between 5 and 11 October. That window has closed. The sale covered travel up to 31 August 2027.
Thailand: six Don Mueang–India routes resume
Thai AirAsia says it cut frequencies and temporarily suspended some routes in the third quarter because of weaker demand and rising fuel prices. It is now restoring them for the October–December high season. The six India routes from Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport (DMK) restart on these dates:
| Route | Restarts |
|---|---|
| Don Mueang–Gaya | 25 October 2026 |
| Don Mueang–Ahmedabad | 6 November 2026 |
| Don Mueang–Guwahati | 16 November 2026 |
| Don Mueang–Hyderabad | 16 November 2026 |
| Don Mueang–Lucknow | 16 November 2026 |
| Don Mueang–Jaipur | 17 November 2026 |
The airline says this takes its Indian network to 11 cities. Sister carrier Thai AirAsia X will fly Don Mueang–New Delhi four times a week this quarter. The release does not give frequencies for the six resumed routes.
Entry rules to check
- Malaysia: Malaysia’s High Commission in New Delhi says Indian nationals can enter visa-free for up to 30 days until 31 December 2026, for business, tourism, social or transit purposes. Travellers need a passport valid for at least six months, confirmed return tickets, a confirmed hotel booking, and a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) submitted online three days before arrival. Trips that run into 2027 fall after the current waiver end date, so agents should watch for an extension announcement.
- Thailand: India is on the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ list for the 30-day tourism visa exemption (dated 15 September 2026).
Why it matters
- For travellers in tier-2 cities: Gaya, Guwahati, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Amritsar get low-cost links to Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur back in time for the winter holidays.
- For agents: Thai AirAsia’s resumed routes use Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport (DMK), not Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Flag this on itineraries and transfer bookings, and check the airport when combining Thai AirAsia with other carriers’ Bangkok flights.
- For pilgrimage operators: Gaya gets Thai AirAsia flights to Don Mueang from 25 October, and IndiGo’s non-stop Gaya–Bangkok flights start on 26 October, according to IndiGo’s press-release index.
